I just wanted to open a discussion to any business ideas that you may have that is "out of the box".

Many such business are quite easy to start up but the real challenge comes if you are the only business in New York, or Chicago or whatever city you live in. Competetion for your business is actually very good as they help you advertise your business.

I once started a pet waste removal service. It failed and I personally believe it was largley due to the fact that I was the only one in my city or market with the business and the advertising burden was completley on me alone.

I had to get people used to the idea of having a pet waste removal serivce and even convincing them as to why they needed it.

When someone hears the phrases, " I own my own business; I am a business owner; I run my own company; I own a corporation" they immediately think high rises, fleet of vehicles, large store front and many other mental pictures. But that is anything but true.

Yes, there are many companies that have these things but they started just like you. With the desire to better themselves! However many more do not have that. Countless people run their businesses from their home, small office or even apartment or college dorm! Did you know the classification of a "corporation" where it be Inc, LLC, LLP any of them are just paperwork that is filed?? It's all about legal protection and tax advantages. (but that's another post for another day)

A loan is something you have to pay back. A grant is pretty much free money. You always see ads all over the Internet promising you a bank of government grants when you start or expand a business.

In reality all them advertisements are just selling ploys. Here is an informative link for you to read explaining the ropes. Just remember the ago old saying "If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is."

One of the most important things before you start a business is to research the market for your product or service. Even if the business you are trying to start has little investment if you don't do the right kind of research causing your business venture to flop you will have just wasted much time and effort. You have heard the expression "time is money." Well let me tell you that couldn't be more true.

Business Idea #2

Another great business idea anyone can start with little to no investment is a HOUSE CLEANING BUSINESS. Many times you can start it with the cleaning chemicals under your sink. [ Although you may want to buy a separate mop and toilet brush :) ]

A local ad in the newspaper or a FREE ad on craigslist and you will be surprised at the calls that will start coming in. As the jobs continue to grow and it becomes more than a "side gig" you should get a business license, insured and get bonded. (to protect you from theft accusations.)

The tricky part will be pricing. But it doesn't have to be. A simple and the best way to do it, is to figure out how much you have to make an hour to clear a profit. Cleaning chemicals and the gas to take you from job to job is about the only overhead you will have starting out. (and maybe a little cost in advertising.)

You can also call local maid services to get estimates for your house to get a general idea of the market in your area, then work you way down. You want to be much cheaper than the main stream competition, but at the same time make a nice profit. You can easily net $25/hr on up!

My First Business (Business Idea #1)

I will never forget my first business I started. My wife and I lived in a one bedroom apartment (725ish sq. ft) at the time and I was desperate to get out of there and do something for myself.

I had no money to invest to I was burning up the internet for business ideas. I found one that needed literally little to no investment. Advertised title: "Pet Waste Removal". Real title/position/street name: Pooper Scooper! I named it: POOP, SCOOP, N BOOGIE

You may laugh, but there are well established enterprises out there that do just that. Think about it, how many FiFi's and Foo Foo's there are out there! And how much folks spend on them every year. Many of them sadly, live better than people in third world countries.

So why not capitalize on this crap?! (pun intended) What's worse than walking in a friend's yard and a few paces later smelling the tale tale signs. After which everyone is checking the bottom of their shoes. (and you thought shoe tread was to keep you from slipping.)

Look at it on the bright side, you won't have much competition. I didn't have a one!!

The purpose of this blog is to help people like you become an entrepreneur! To help people like you who are sick and tired of the 9-5 Monday - Friday rat race! An entrepreneur (they) is not some overnight millionaire. That is a gambler or someone who just won the lottery. And you are obviously neither or you would not be reading this blog.

They are someone who wishes to better themselves by doing something "for themselves" rather than someone else aka day job, employer etc. You can never make it working for someone else. Small businesses are the backbone of America. My first piece of advice is to start small but dream BIG! Many people may advise you to not start a business in this economy. I say don't put yourself at risk in this economy by if you have the means, will power and some guts you can be anything you want to be.
